Its time to welcome my latest car purchase to Team Penguin.  I recently picked up a 1971 MG B from the infamous Craigs List.  Being a CL find you can all assume this project fulfilled my primary goal.  It was cheap.  Consequently, it was also in many many boxes.

So step one was to organize and inventory the parts.  It looks as if I have 90% of what I need to complete the project using the original 1800cc engine, stock transmission with overdrive, etc.  You’ll notice in the photo I even have the stock bumpers, and several sets of tail lights in case I’m in need of any spares!

After organization it was important for me to begin by building the engine.  Big thanks to Aaron at Pure Tuning for helping me with this process.  I balanced the rotating assembly of the engine and honed and decked the block, then ran it all through the hot tank for a bit.  The whole process left me with a very nice looking block ready for assembly.

Filling the time in between the block assembly has been done by throughly examining the chassis and removing the interior and checking for rust.  Good news on this front, as the chassis is free of rot!  It even passes the “jack up the car and open the door” test.  The body is currently in primer, so a paint color will need to be chosen, but more on that later.  I’ll finish this post out with a few photos of the car
